A WEST Cork bar owner is on a mission to stamp out so-called “catfish” incidents at his restaurant with a new initiative designed to protect the safety of female customers.
James Casey, owner of Casey’s Bar and Restaurant in Clonakilty, felt compelled to act after noticing a customer’s distress when a man she met through an online dating site didn’t match his profile picture.

Casey’s Bar and Restaurant in Clonakilty wants to give back to the community that has supported them so well since the arrival of Covid by offering to feed those in need this Christmas.
They posted on Facebook on Thursday, offering to help anyone who is living alone this Christmas.
“Are you living alone or know anyone living alone this Christmas? Then Casey’s are here to help! We are giving away free Christmas dinners on Christmas Eve with all the trimmings, plus dessert!”

A CLONAKILTY bar is holding acoustic candlelight music sessions every Monday night to beat rising energy bills and the climate crisis.
The ‘Acoustic Candle Night’ with Danny O’Leary at Casey’s Bar started four weeks ago, after owner James Casey said they had decided to do something different, and the plan has really resonated with his customers.
‘Hopefully it makes a difference to our electricity bill and I’m getting good feedback not just from customers but other business people in Clonakilty ,’ James told The Southern Star.
